From helping siblings find permanent placement together, to finding a child a stable home with a relative, to uncovering information that helps reunite a loving family, volunteer advocates make incredible differences in the lives of abused and neglected children.

BRYAN'S STORY

We shared with you in 2016 the story of sweet, baby Bryan. CASA volunteer met Bryan, who was only a few months old at the time, at the hospital where he was admitted. Upon arrival, Tricia was absolutely speechless and in shock upon seeing his torn up body in such a large hospital bed. She was heartbroken to find him in such a horrible state - he was lying in a coma and suffered from seizures, fractures, and many broken bones throughout his whole body. Doctors said the impact on his ability to walk, talk, and play would be profound.

But that didn’t stop Tricia’s fierce advocacy as Bryan’s CASA volunteer, and Bryan’s fight for survival.

It was a long road to recovery, but Tricia worked to ensure Bryan was in a safe and supportive environment so he can heal from his wounds - physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Tricia says that Bryan was “such a gift” and “as a volunteer you may not be the doctor that saves him from immediate danger, but you are the one that makes sure that the rest of his life he’s going to have the home he needs.”

Fast forward to today, seven years later, and Byan is now a healthy, growing, and playful second grader! He is thriving with his adoptive family and “hitting milestone’s he was never supposed to get”, says Lee Gonzales, dad to Bryan. Bryan loves taking family trips as they always make sure to stop at his favorite place: Buc-ee’s.

THANK YOU for being there for children like Bryan – by giving him an advocate who didn’t leave his bedside, and helping him grow into becoming the playful, rambunctious kid he is today.

Your donation to CASA of Tarrant County on North Texas Giving Day gives children like Bryan the care and advocacy they NEED to survive and thrive for the rest of their lives.

THE PROBLEM

Child abuse is on the rise. Not in some far-off place, but right here in Tarrant County. It's rising one innocent child at at time. More than 580 Texas children are currently placed out of state. We are facing a CRISIS in the foster care system as the Texas Child Protective Services system does not have enough bedspace for all children in its care. The numbers are clear. Without intervention, the effects of child abuse or neglect can continue to LAST A LIFETIME including:

  1. higher incarceration rates
  2. teenage pregnancy
  3. homelessness
  4. substance abuse
  5. poor medical/mental health

SO, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO TO HELP?

Volunteer for CASA. Donate to support CASA. Our Court Appointed Special Advocates make a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE in the life of an abused child. They listen, care and spend time with each child, and are a CONSISTENT VOICE whose purpose is to help during a difficult time. On average, children with a CASA volunteer:

  1. Are more likely to find a permanent home and be placed with family
  2. Have better educational outcomes and receive more therapeutic services
